Reolink NVR hard drive compatibility: the short answer

The current Reolink RLN8-410, hardware version N7MB01, takes 1 internal SATA drive and 1 external drive on its eSATA port. Reolink’s spec sheet states a maximum of 8 TB per drive and 16 TB in total. Other RLN8-410 hardware versions stop at 6 TB or 4 TB per drive, so the version on your unit decides which drive you can buy. The Reolink Home Hub Pro has 1 drive bay and takes a single drive of up to 16 TB.

Recorder Drives Max per drive Max in total
Reolink RLN8-410, hardware N7MB01 1 internal + 1 eSATA 8 TB 16 TB
Reolink Home Hub Pro 1 internal 16 TB One drive only

This page puts Reolink’s limits for every RLN8-410 hardware version in one table, then matches each drive on Reolink’s recommended HDD list to each version and to the Home Hub Pro. Reolink publishes that list once for all its NVRs and the Home Hub Pro, without saying which version each drive fits.

Checked against Reolink’s RLN8-410 spec sheet (opens in a new tab) (Last-Modified 2026-07-22), the PoE NVR user manual (opens in a new tab) (Sept 2021 QSG1_A (ModDate 2021-10-21)), the Home Hub Pro spec sheet (opens in a new tab) (Last-Modified 2026-07-22) and Reolink’s support articles on drives, hardware versions and recommended HDDs; records verified on (RLN8-410) and (Home Hub Pro).

If 8 TB per drive and 16 TB in total fit your plan, this is where to find the Reolink RLN8-410.

RLN8-410 max hard drive size, by hardware version

Reolink gives the RLN8-410 drive limit in three places: its article on how many drives each NVR takes (HDD article (opens in a new tab)), its guide to NVR hardware versions (opens in a new tab), and the 2021 PoE NVR user manual, which doesn’t cover N7MB01 or NVR_NNT3NA78P. We set the three side by side: for every version they give the same per-drive limit, and for N7MB01 the spec sheet agrees too. Every version has 1 internal bay and 1 eSATA port, per the HDD article.

Hardware version Max per drive (HDD article) Max per drive (version guide) Max per drive (2021 manual) Max in total (HDD article) Verification level
N7MB01 (current spec sheet) 8 TB 8 TB Not in the manual 16 TB Manufacturer
NVR_NNT3NA78P 8 TB 8 TB Not in the manual 16 TB Manufacturer
H3MB18 6 TB 6 TB 6 TB 12 TB Manufacturer
N2MB02 6 TB 6 TB 6 TB 12 TB Manufacturer
N3MB01 6 TB 6 TB 6 TB 12 TB Manufacturer
H3MB02 4 TB 4 TB 4 TB 8 TB Manufacturer
H3MB16 (called RLN8-410-E in the version guide and the manual) 4 TB 4 TB 4 TB 8 TB Manufacturer

The total is the per-drive limit for both drives together, internal and eSATA: 2 × 8 = 16 TB, 2 × 6 = 12 TB and 2 × 4 = 8 TB. Which means the internal bay alone never holds more than the per-drive limit: past that, the second drive has to go on the eSATA port.

How to find your hardware version

Reolink’s PoE NVR user manual says the System > Info page, on the monitor connected to the NVR, shows the model, the hardware version and the firmware version. Read the model as well as the version: Reolink’s HDD article puts N7MB01 and NVR_NNT3NA78P in the same row as another model, the NVS8, so the code alone doesn’t name the recorder.

Reolink Home Hub Pro hard drive: one drive, up to 16 TB

Reolink’s spec sheet gives the Home Hub Pro 1 internal drive bay and a hard drive of up to 16 TB, with no eSATA port listed. Reolink’s drive rule for the hub, in short: One 3.5-inch HDD up to 16TB; for models not on the list, Enterprise or Surveillance level, with a capacity the Home Hub Pro supports (manufacturer).

The hub also has a microSD slot for a card of up to 512 GB, but the spec sheet states it records to the card only when no hard drive is installed. A 16 TB drive holds 16,000 GB (1 TB = 1,000 GB), which is 31.25 times the 512 GB card.

Reolink’s Home Hub compatibility article (opens in a new tab) splits the Home Hub Pro into two groups of hardware versions, for 12 or 24 cameras, but gives no drive limit per version: the 16 TB of the spec sheet is the only one.

Reolink’s recommended drives, matched to each limit

Every drive in this table is on Reolink’s Recommended HDD List for Reolink NVRs and Home Hub Pro (opens in a new tab). Reolink doesn’t say which RLN8-410 hardware version each drive fits, so we compared each drive’s capacity with the per-drive limits in the first table. “Yes” means the drive is within the maximum Reolink states for that version; “No” means it is larger. Drives on Reolink’s list that are larger than both recorders’ limits are left out.

Counting the rows: all 17 drives fit the Home Hub Pro, 9 fit an RLN8-410 with N7MB01 or NVR_NNT3NA78P, 6 fit H3MB18, N2MB02 or N3MB01, and 4 fit H3MB02 or H3MB16. The 8 drives of 10 TB and 16 TB fit only the Home Hub Pro: they are larger than every RLN8-410 version allows.

Two WD drives that are not on Reolink’s list

Reolink’s rule for a drive that isn’t on its list, in short: 3.5-inch HDD; for models not on the list, Enterprise or Surveillance level, with a capacity the NVR supports. Reolink also warns that “notebook or home office-grade hard drives may experience poor performance and compatibility issues with NVRs”. We checked two common WD drives against that rule. Reolink hasn’t listed either of them, so the verification level is “untested”: the match is ours, read from Reolink’s criteria and WD’s datasheets, not Reolink’s.

Drive Against Reolink’s criteria RLN8-410 versions whose limit it fits Home Hub Pro Verification level
WD WD85PURZ Meets them (Surveillance class, 3.5-inch, within the limit) per WD’s datasheet; not on Reolink’s recommended list N7MB01, NVR_NNT3NA78P Within the 16 TB maximum, not on the list Untested
WD WD80EFPX Not in the drive class Reolink recommends (surveillance or enterprise) N7MB01, NVR_NNT3NA78P Not in the drive class Reolink recommends (surveillance or enterprise) Untested

The external drive on the RLN8-410

Reolink’s rule for the second drive, in short: External HDD on the eSATA port with its own power (enclosure for a 3.5-inch HDD with eSATA, or eSATA data cable plus power cable); never through the NVR’s USB port (manufacturer). The per-drive limit of your version applies to that drive as well.

What the limits mean in numbers

Same 16 TB, one drive or two

The current RLN8-410 and the Home Hub Pro reach the same total, but not the same way. The RLN8-410 with N7MB01 needs two 8 TB drives, one inside and one in an eSATA enclosure with its own power, to reach 16 TB. The Home Hub Pro reaches 16 TB with one internal drive and has no second drive to add. Which means that on the RLN8-410 the second drive is the upgrade path, and on the Home Hub Pro the only upgrade is a larger single drive.

Upgrading an RLN8-410 with a 6 TB or 4 TB limit

An 8 TB drive from Reolink’s list, such as the Seagate ST8000VX009, is 2 TB over the 6 TB maximum of H3MB18, N2MB02 and N3MB01, and twice the 4 TB maximum of H3MB02 and H3MB16. On those versions the largest listed drive within the limit is 6 TB or 4 TB, and the most they hold with both drives is 12 TB or 8 TB. Check the version before buying a drive for an RLN8-410 you already own.

Where to buy the recorders on this page

Reolink’s current RLN8-410 spec sheet is for hardware N7MB01; Reolink’s pages don’t say which version a seller ships, so check System > Info once the NVR is set up. This page doesn’t link any drive: the tables are Reolink’s list matched to each limit, not a pick.
